From: Gilkberto Klar Renner, Puerto Alegre, Brasil Date: Thu, 18 Nov 1999 16:32:54 -0200 My team have observed the Leonids on November 17/18, 1999 in Sao Francisco de Paula, Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil with clear skies. They were Luis Ant~Ynio da Silva Machado, Luiz Augusto Leit~Ko da Silva and me. The observers live in Porto Alegre area. Near two hours of observation was realized. My first period ( 5:15 - 6:18 UT) the radiant was only 12.6 ? height and few Leonids went seen. But around 4h19 UT the activity was better. In my second period of observation ( 6:22 - 7:11 UT) the radiant was 22 ? height and 11 Leonids went noted. This is equivalent a ZHR 68 meteor/ hour, assuming r = 1.8, and magnitude limite around 5.7. The magnitude mean of Leonids was 1.79 and 2.18 for Sporadics. During the Leonids observation on November 18 at 6h13m UT I noted 6 meteors during 1.75h of observation effective with origem in a same sky area that I estimmed around A.R. 100 ? and DEC. +8 ? The observation went realized using tape recorder. The meteors were of magnitude 3 in the mean and weren't rapid. Observing at home the Handbook for Visual Meteor Observing, IMO Monography n?2, of Rendtel, Arlt and McBbeath (1995), I noted that in that area there is a radiant of Monocerotids Meteor Stream. The period of visibility would be of November 27 to December 17 with maximum on December 8. Congratulations by the your nice work during the Leonids. ----- From: Rafael haag ( Universidade Federal do Rio grande do Sul ) Date: Thu, 18 Nov 1999 12:47:33 -0200 Leonid Results November 18 Leonid Results by Rafael Haag (HAARA), Porto Alegre, BRAZIL: Lat. 30'20" S Lon. 51' 06" W Alt. 10m Field: Azimuth 180 deg.
