From: Rocky Togni, Kennedy Park, Heber Springs, Arkansas Date: Nov. 17, 1997 Even with the bright moon there were many Leonids visible. There were many bright >Mag 1 that left trains that were enhanced by the moonlight. As dawn neared a flash of light near the NE horizon grabbed my attention. When I shifted my view there was an orange train that lasted about 10 seconds. Another interesting observation that I classified a sporadic was a point of light that brightened and went out. One directly at me? There were also three long slow Taurids contrasting with the fast Leonids. They were across the sky from Taurus setting in the West and I couldn't assign a North or South designation. Following are my results: 1997 November 17 % Obs LM Leo Tau Spo Total 8:14-8:59 UT 1.00 4.5 13 1 3 17 9:00-9:59 UT .85 4.5 16 0 1 17 10:00-10:41 UT .88 4.2 11 2 1 14 No meteor storm, but still a very interesting night.
