From: Arlene C. Brill, Assos, Turkey Date: Fri, 17 Nov 2000 18:13:58 +0200 we have great weather/sky conditions here..but my first try last night (this morning) at 3-4 AM turned up nothing!! this is my third year in this part of the world for the Leonids. my first shot in '98 was so breathtaking that i did it again last year but got rained out. this year, the conditions are perfect but the moon is too bright and was almost directly overhead at 3-4. can someone tell me if i have ANY chance to see any Leonids here tonight ? i'll try again but let me know (via private email PLEASE) what time i should go up to the roof and observe. ---- Date: Sat, 18 Nov 2000 04:09:24 +0200 just a quick message. i want to get back outside. in spite of the moon, we've got great conditions and a great show. not up to '98's spectacular performance, but very decent. i'd say that we've got about 50-80 per hour with nice trails.... more later..... --- Date: Sat, 18 Nov 2000 04:43:49 +0200 just ran in to give you a count... 30 in about 20 minutes...two fireballs. i can't do scientific research at the moment, sorry...i'm enjoying what's happening too much. just wanted to tell you that i'm glad i didn't sleep through this!! saw two fireballs...neat!! --- last count 57 for a 30 minute watch. two fireballs .. all Leonids but one sporatic. great trails....i'm trying to thaw out now. hope you all have such good viewing.
