From: Yk Chia, Singapore Date: Sat, 18 Nov 2000 11:36:18 +0800 Despite a less than ideal observation site and LM 4.0+ sky I have managed to bag 8 Leonids and 1 SPO exceptional bright green fireball in Kranji, NW of Singapore. There is absence of meteors seen from 11/17 UT 17-1900 hrs. The first Leonid started in 11/17 UT 19:34. Peak around UT 20:10-20:15, 21:30-22:00 as twilight approaches... Centre of view: Auriga. All leoids seen were swift , one left a visible wake and typical trajectories of 20-25 degrees. Color range from one orange-red to slight yellow white. ( did not observe the yellow-green like in 1999 Leonids). May be these are influenced by the dominant moon light. I am surprise to have seen such bright meteors with moon nearby!! There is definitely heightened leonids activity....this year leonids gave local folks a chance to see Leonids w/o travelling abroad. ~
