From C.A. feuchter [at] centurion.flash.net Date: Mon, 16 Nov 1998 21:52:00 -0700 Subject: I was living in Alamogordo, New Mexico in November of 1966. I had finished a Masters degree in astronomy the previous year and was working for the Air Force. I was fortunate enough to work with Dr. Paul Jose, a professional astronomer who had seen reports that the Leonids might put on a show that year. I got up sometime after midnight and saw nothing. I went back to sleep only to be awakened by Dr. Jose on the telephone about 5 AM. My wife and I went outside to a spectacle I can never forget. The sky was full of meteor trails as though a huge but silent fireworks display were underway. We watched spellbound for 15 or 20 minutes. At one point I tried to count the trails, but I was unable to keep up. There were more than 10,000 per hour. It had to be the most remarkable natural phenomenon I've ever witnessed.
