News update for 11/17/98, 8:30 a.m. EST

The Australian (radar) team is reporting significantly increased activity.  Until last
night, they were seeing about 600 meteors per hour, and during last night's
peak about 1200 per hour.  "We haven't seen the peak yet, but it's been a
spectacular show so far," said Col. Don Jewell, a U.S. Space Command
observer with the team.

Both science teams (Mongolia and Australia) are expecting today's activities
to proceed as planned.
