From: Nancy Parker, Evergreen, Colorado Date: Wed, 18 Nov 1998 13:05:43 -0700 I was a physics/math major and sometime astronomy lab assistant at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas and my physics/astronomy professor, Manly Huber, was preparing his classes for a "huge Leonid meteor shower". In my 21 year old wisdom, I wasn't too impressed..I had seen meteor showers before. I dutifully helped with the star gazing party and went back to my room really tired about 1 a.m. About 4:30 a.m., Mr. Huber called me and told me to hurry back to campus. It was like a 4th of July fireworks and Starwars hyperspace experience! We alerted every student and neighbor we could. The sheer number of meteors and fireballs so overwhelmed me that I sat down that morning and wrote all about it to my Dad, who was in a hospital in Oklahoma. That day I was called to come to the hospital told he was dying. I told him all about the great shower. He died on November 20th.
