From: Tijana Zecevic, Sekula Date: Thu, 19 Nov 1998 02:40:38 +0100 I had an interesting impression that "The Storm" began as a very strong one. About 21:00 local time (20:00 UT) through dining room window in the Radar station we stayed in and preparing for our observation, two very shining bolids could be seen. My friend who lives in nearby village (Gornji Matejevac) told me that yesterday evening, before they had fallen asleep, people could have seen many bolids through their windows. He was at the party when he saw one through the window. It is important to say that the day I came (about noon Nov. the 16th) the atmosphere was very transparent. Our host, meteorologist, was fascinated by the fact that, behind the peaks of mountain Mali Jastrebac, he could see the peaks of Kopaonik (distance between these two mountains is about 100 km). He told us that during his thirty years of practice at this Station, he hadn=92t seen anything like that! It seemed that God and Fortune smiled on us!!! It is interesting to say that bolids were grouped in trains, i.e. they were flashing as bursts first from one side and then from another, they were "falling" and making wonderfoul carneval atmosphere all around us. We found their lights looked like lightnings and flashes. Their trails were lasting for about ten seconds. At the end of trails I saw a few huge explosions, so fascinating that I could never forget! I'm very glad that as a mortal, I had my portion of this event and I'm sure this is something I would tell my grandchildren.
