From: Kazuhiro Suzuki, Toyokawa City, Aichi, Japan Date: Nov. 18, 1997 HRO Today 11/18/97 Nov.18 0h UT, 1997 Radio Meteor Data from Japan Kazuhiro Suzuki 1997 Leonids in Japan 1997 Leonid meteors were very active in Japan in the early morning on November 18 LT (LT=UT+9h). The Leonid meteor activities were detected by monitoring forward-scattered meteor echoes of 50 MHz HAM radio wave (JA9YDB, 53.7500 MHz, 50W, operated by Mr. Maegawa) at Toyokawa Meteor Observatory, Aichi, Japan. Hourly rate of meteor echoes reached 80 at 19h-20h UT, Nov.17. The long continuous echoes(>20 seconds) remarkably increased to over 10 times of the usual during 17h-21h UT on Nov. 17, corresponding the solar longitude of 235.5(2000.0 Eq). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Parameters on HRO(Radio Meteor Observation using Ham) /////////////////////////////////////// Parameters on HRO at Sabae Transmitting Station Location : Fukui National College of Technology Geshi-cho Sabae city 916 Japan (136.18 E, 35.93 N) Station master : Ham Club of Hukui National College of Technology Kimio Maegawa Power and mode : 50 W Steady Carrier with FSK ID (JA9YDB) every 10 mimutes Frequency : 53.7500 MHz Transmitter : IC706 with cooling fan and Daiwa Switching Power Supply Antenna : 2 element Cross Yagi 4dBi aiming zenith Gain variation +-1dB azimuth and +- 3dB zenith +-70 deg. /////////////////////////////////////// Parameters on HRO at Toyokawa Observatory Observer: Kazuhiro Suzuki HRO (Radio Meteor Observation using HAM) Location: Toyokawa Meteor Observatory (137.32 deg E, 34.81 deg N) Toyokawa-city, Aichi, 442, JAPAN Transmitter: JA9BOH 53.7500 MHz, CW 50 W Antenna: Dipole (height 7 m, to zenith) Receiver: IC-575 (ICOM) USB BW 2.5 kHz 53.7485 MHz Transmitter location: Sabae (in Fukui pref.), about 150 km north north-west from receiving station.
