Brief Biographical Information:
By profession an electrical engineer at Lockheed Martin, Mike Koop is an active amateur astronomer and President of the
San Jose Astronomical Association (2001-2007). He received the AANC Amateur Astronomer Award from the Astronomical Association of Northern California in 2005. He has run the SJAA loaner scope program since the 1990Õs. He usually does the ÒWhatÕs up in the sky tonightÓ portion of the star parties at Houge Park in San Jose. He headed up the mirrorÐmaking workshop classes and he set up several meteor counting parties. He has served as ViceÐPresident of both SJAA and AANC. He also led the effort to make a compendium of Ephemeris newsletters available on CDÐROM.

Research:
Mike Koop has been involved in
experiments at meteor triangulation in the Bay Area since 1994, in collaboration with
Dr. Peter Jenniskens. He provides technical support and helps coordinate the observers in and
near the San Francisco Bay Area when meteor observing campaigns are organised.
Research on Leonid MAC:
Technical support camera operation for imaging of meteors and low/resolution VIS/NIR spectroscopy.
Mike Koop operates intensified cameras onboard FISTA.
