2000 Leonid MAC

The 2000 season is hampered by a bad last quarter Moon not far from the shower radiant and relatively low peak rate predictions. Two dust trail encounters, those of 1932 and 1866, occur at nearly the same time one day appart. Both can be observed from a location in the eastern United States.

Best viewing is in Florida. Observing stations are set up in Florida (ISTEF at Kennedy Space Flight Center and the town of Jupiter for stereoscopic imaging) and at Mount Lemmon observatory in Arizona, where weather conditions are expected to be more favorable. A small Cessna aircraft is deployed from Gainesville, with support of Dr. Bo Gustafson, in an effort to escape bad weather.
