FIRST RESULTS 2003 LEONIDS

The 2003 Leonids did not promise the return of past meteor storms. Instead, the 1499 dust trail (about 17h UT on Nov 13) was observed from Japan and parts of eastern Asia, as predicted by Esko Lyytinen, and a broad peak with ZHR about 50 was observed around November 19, as predicted by Peter Jenniskens. Other minor trails at 7h UT (1533) and 17h UT (1733) could not (yet) be confirmed due to lack of data. Clouds interfered with many observing plans, including those organized in the context of Leonid MAC in Alaska and Virginia.

Leonid fireball by K. Pascual K. Pascual: "Skies were mostly cloudy during the night, however, I managed to capture this meteor in soutwest Montana around 4:30 am MST just before the hole in the clouds closed. Details: 10 second exposure, using a 28 mm lens, taken Nov 19, 2002 using Kodak MAX 400. "

FIRST RESULTS 2002 LEONIDS

The 2002 Leonids were hampered by a near-full Moon and bad weather at many locations. Those that did have clear weather saw a spectacular storm of short duration, caused by meteoroids from the 1767 (Europe) or the 1866 dust trail (America's). See also: Leonid MAC - campaign reports

FIRST RESULTS 2001 LEONIDS

The 2001 meteor storms were a spectacle and surpassed most people's expectations. The storms occurred much as predicted, with two strong storms visible from north America (1767 dust trail) and from the western Pacific and Australia (1699 and 1866 dust trails).
